Wheat Grass

You don't have to travel to your nearest juice bar to get a shot of wheat grass.  Why?  You could grow it yourself.  Yes, I am on a DIY kick.  But you knew that.  I like to do at home, what others go to the store for.  And today is wheat grass.  There are kits you can purchase.  Oh, one time I found the cutest one, and for an astronomical price I could grow wheat grass just enough for one shot.  I was tempted, but opted to keep looking.  I found the seeds in tiny little packages at Whole Foods which I put in my shopping cart.  Then this fabulous checkout girl, pssst me.  Did you know, she said, you can get the same product in the bins?  Just scoop out how much you want and weigh it.  It's cheaper.  CHEAPER?  My ears perked up.  I'm all for that.  They're called wheat berries.  You can try to grow wheat grass with it or boil it up and eat it like barley.  Yum.

Wheat grass is easy to grow.  Get yourself a tray with dirt.  A planter will do, but so will a box lid.  Put about an inch of dirt and thickly sprinkle (when I say thick, I mean it. don't be cheap)the wheat berries.  Put a spritzer bottle near it and wet it down whenever you walk by it.  When it's about 2-3 inches cut it like your mowing your lawn.

To juice it, get yourself a masticating juicer.  Preferably one that clamps to your counter.  Clean your juicer every time and enjoy a healthy shot of wheat grass in the coziness of your own home.  Do you already juice wheat grass and have your own recipes?  Sign in and let me know.  I'd love to hear them.
